  • What upgrades or changes are necessary to provide better technology integration for adult learning opportunities?

  1. The IACET website is a Web 1.0 static website providing intuitive access to a fairly limited number of webinars and online modules. The organization has created two communication venues that are neither asynchronous nor synchronous. The eNewsletter, named The CET Connection is a free subscription RSS Feed information service providing timely content to the subscribers email. The content includes Keep Up with IACET News and Events and Stay Current on CE/T Developments. The archive presents a list of the twice monthly eNewsletter that can be accessed back to March 2009. The eNewsletter compiles articles from a variety of ancillary adult and continuing education online publishers. Latest Headlines and Most Popular Stories are featured sections in the archive area (International Association of Continuing Education and Training, 2011). An improvement to the online technology content would be to create an asynchronous learning platform for members to openly discuss articles provided in The CET Connection. Also, the existing webinars and online modules could be recreated to facilitate synchronous learning environments. It would seem that an organization that sets the standard for continuing education would implement the latest technology to its own online curriculum.

    1. Technology is moving at a fast pace and organizations, schools, and instructors need to keep up with the new technology to benefit the adult learners and keep he or she motivated. The changes IACET website needs to provide for better technology integration is the ability for adult learners to access seminars anytime through recorded webcast or podcast. Not everyone can attend a live webinar but anyone can watch or listen to a pre-recorded webinar on his or her computer. This type of technology is available through the Smartphone, laptop, and tablets with internet access. Today, students can go to his or her local Starbucks or McDonalds and obtain free internet access. He or she can have a cup of coffee and watch a pre-recorded webinar anytime of the day or night.

  2. Since technology is booming and the internet is becoming more interactive than ever, the use of sample simulations for modules could be beneficial. Interactive modules "offer experiential learning opportunities as part of a lesson" ("What Is An Interactive Module?", n.d., para. 9). The interactive simmulations could give the organizations that are purchsaing the modules, the opportunity to sample the modules and learn how to use them before making them accessible to the participants of their organization.

From the reading of this company technology resources I will have to agree that the webinars and the online modules and a great resource for the company but I believe that it they were to incorporate podcasting and webcasting into their technology base it would give learners and the facilitators the opportunity watch them at will. Their are some technology that does not require internet access, but in this companies case they would certain want to make the information that they share accessible to the learners that can use the internet. In a prior post the technology that would work well would be smartphones, laptops, computers, and tablets. Access to individuals that don't have a computer would be the nearest library or community resource center. It would be very beneficial to IACET.
